Group SummaryIn the article “Teens, Nude Photos and the Law,” Dalia Lithwick is saying that teens should be punished for participating in child pornography, but not with punishments that will last a lifetime. Child pornography is such a big issue because sexting has evolved into a nationwide outbreak that is leading many young kids to be involved and possibly charged with child pornography. Many of these teens are being charged with felonies for possession and distribution of child pornography, but many plead guilty to avoid harsh sentences or being on the sex offenders list. Many people argue that the boys are the ones pressuring the girls, but girls have harsher cases for sending the photos, while boys just get possession charges. One of the main reasons for these punishments is due to the possible cruel acts that the children that get ahold of the photos can do. There are many examples of people doing malicious acts with the photos, such as in Massachusetts when “the picture of a naked 14-year-old girl was allegedly sent to more than 100 cell phones”(Lithwick par 4). The sad fact is that one in five teens is said to have participated in the sending of the nude photos and this is dangerous because when it is sent out, it is out forever. |
